On the evening of 13 July 2022, the Manx weather played ball and the veterans came out to play.
The annual Manx Veterans Mile took place at the NSC, and this year saw a 12 runners take to the track to try and beat their own time and in the process pick up a trophy or two.
As the starting gun set the runners off Paul Jennings took the early lead, which he held to finish in a winning time of 5:16.8 followed 7 seconds later by Peter Callin 5:23.8. Paul Rodgers rounded off the top three, four seconds later with a time of 5:27.5.
Caroline Mayers was the first lady home, coming in fourth with a time of 5:45.3. Kevin Vondy then crossed the line at 6:05.6 leading our second lady in, Helen Taylor 6:10.6. Robbie Lambie finished at 6:44.3. Jayne Farquhar was the third lady home in 7:00.2. Mike Martin visiting the Island finished the mile in 7:18.2.
Moira Hall had an impressive 8:18.9 followed by Karen Godsby at 8:45.3 and Katie McAleer at 8:55.4.
Peter Callin was the first runner from IOM Veterans Athletic Club and as such lift the large Perpetual Trophy. Well done to all you took part, setting some decent times.
