London Marathon – 24 April 2016
On the Virgin Money London Marathon website there is a statement regarding changes to affiliated club entries:
More than 247,000 UK residents applied through the ballot for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon and the number of runners qualifying for a ‘Good For Age’ guaranteed place in 2016 increased by more than 1000 on the 2015 figure. We have therefore reviewed all aspects of our entry system for the 2016 event.
We are introducing a new ratio of places per member for British Athletics-affiliated running clubs. The number of guaranteed entries for members of affiliated running clubs has been reduced by 500 places but there will be more club runners taking part in the 2016 event than at any time in the past 15 years as the majority of Good for Age runners belong to clubs.
We appreciate that this new allocation may disappoint some clubs but we want to maintain the balance of places available via the entry system. We will continue to review the entry system on an annual basis.
This has resulted in our club only receiving one place for the 2016 marathon and Richard Gerrard was the winner of this place.
Good luck to Richard. We all look forward to reading your report in the club newsletter!
