The first event of the IOMVAC calendar got underway on Thursday evening at the NSC for the Annual Vets Mile.
In excellent running conditions, a field of 18 runners turned out with their own personal best time targets in view.
After a four lap battle, Tom Hughes took first place from Paul Rodgers with a time of 5minutes exactly. Tom revealed that the secret behind his solid run was Romanian Moonshine consumed the evening before! Andy Watson came in third after another tight battle with Neil Crowe and Geoff Rice respectively.
In the ladies category, Caroline Mayers came first with a time of 5mins and 36 secs to take the ladies title as well as The Arthur Currie and Fred Ward Memorial Trophy. Helen Taylor and Jane Farquhar came second and third respectively.
A special mention goes to Andy Fox who set a new record in the 60-65 category.
