Autumn Handicap, Run & Walk, at the NSC in Douglas on 13th Oct.
Results: Here Report from Helen Simpson:-
The Isle of Man Veteran Athlete’s Club held their annual Autumn Handicap races on Thursday 13th October; the second of its kind following the Spring event in March. The handicap times were based on the Spring result or best times from other recent 5K walks and 10K runs and this proves to be a good formula to attract competitors of all abilities, as finishing positions are based on order of completion rather than times.
The 5k race walk was held first and was evenly balanced with eight men and eight women. The six lap race around the raceway at the NSC was won by Denise Jones, second place went to Nick Wallinger and third to Sylvia Kennaugh.
The weather played ball for the majority of the evening with the first runner setting off at 7:30pm and the intermittent light rain showers didn’t seem to deter the field of 63 runners, many of whom ran their personal bests. First place went to Rose Taylor, second was Emma Shilling and third was Dee Gimbert; girl power at its best!
Thanks go to all the competitors, judges, marshals and first aiders for making these events possible.
