The Veteran Athletes Mile event took place on Wednesday evening in sunny but windy conditions at the NSC track. With a record field of 24 competitors, Tom Hughes of Manx Fell Runners was neck and neck with Paul Jennings going into the final lap. Hughes then pulled away, finishing in 5:07:02, even completing an extra lap. Jennings finished second with a time of 5:16:06, and IOMVAC’s Lee Worsfold came third in 5:23:08 winning the Vets Mile Perpetual trophy. In the women’s category, WAC’s Dawn Atherton won with a time of 5:40:09, followed by IOMVAC’s Kathy Garrett at 6:24:07 and Jayne Farquhar at 6:54:07, finishing second and third respectively.
